An Intro--WHY do I start blogging?

Hi, welcome to Us Together.

I am Crystal and I am currently studying at an American high school as an international student from Xinjiang, China. I start this blog primarily because I used to post blogs in Qzone, a Chinese blog site, and with the increasingly stricter internet censorship in Xinjiang reported by NYT, I am worried that my future blog posts pertaining to sensitive issues in my home province Xinjiang will be blocked. Also, posting blogs in English will allow my voice to be projected to wider audiences who are also interested in issues/stories of Xinjiang.

The first several blog posts will be my old blog posts (in Chinese of course) that told stories of my experience in Southern Xinjiang. (Links to my Chinese blog posts are down below.) In the past five years, several terrorist attacked employed by Muslim Uyghurs took place across China and subsequently triggered a strong anti-Muslim & anti-Uyghur sentiment in China. I have grown up with many Uyghur friends and it is heartbroken for me to see them being accused of terrorists merely because of their ethnicity. A lot of the conflicts rooted from a lack of communication between Han, the major ethnic group in China, and Uyghurs. I hope my small efforts can spark more friendships and connections between the two groups that defeat pervasive prejudice and fear.
